TCM is a system of primary health care with an uninterrupted history of development in China and other parts of East Asia dating back thousands of years. It adopts a holistic approach to understanding disease processes and its focus is as much on prevention of illness as it is on treatment.
Its underlying concept is that the Meridians are the physical bodies energy network system (an interlacing web of channels) and the carriers of vital-energy, or Qi and are what doctors of TCM have been working with for over 3000 years.
All disease first starts off as an energy imbalance. If Qi moving through the meridian pathways become blocked, disconnected or distorted ; the body will experience symptoms of dis-ease, discomfort and trouble with normal bodily functions.
Simply put, when there is an abundance of Qi and it is flowing smoothly, good health is the results. When there is a deficiency of Qi and/or a blockage of Qi, then illness in the result, because the body cannot maintain balance and order.
What Disrupts the Flow of Qi?'
Things that disrupt the free flow of Qi and cause deficiency can include;
Prolonged stress
Overworking or burnout
Overthinking and mental strain
Emotional suppression & self-judgement
Poor diet
Lack of movement or exercise
Disconnection from nature
Disconnection from self
Lack of sunlight exposure
Environmental toxins
Genetic predisposition
Chinese Medicine helps unblock and redirects Qi flow which helps relieve symptoms, but it is also vital that the recipient changes their unhelpful ways and practises a holistic and self-caring lifestyle.
